Standing on the Promises

Quote; “To abide in faith is to put aside feeling and selfish desires, to walk humbly with the Lord, to appropriate His promises, and apply them to all occasions, believing that God will work out His own plans and purposes in your heart and life. {FLB 122}

Let us read the words to this great old Hymn; Standing on the promises of Christ my King, Through eternal ages let His praises ring, Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God. Chorus; Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Saviour; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.  Standing on the promises that cannot fail, When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, By the living Word of God I shall prevail, Standing on the promises of God.”

“Standing on the promises I now can see, Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me; Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free, Standing on the promises of God.  Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord, Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord, Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword, Standing on the promises of God.  Standing on the promises I shall not fall, List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call. Resting in my Saviour as my All in all, Standing on the promises of God.”

The Philosophy once said; “Are you standing on the Promises, or are you seated on the Premises.” Or, “Going to McDonalds no more makes you a Hamburger, than going to Church makes you a Christian.”  Your Doctor’s Prescription will not save your life if you wave the “Script” about forever, neither will it matter if the Chemist fills the “Script” and you wave the bottle of tablets about, you must digest them as per the dosage prescribed to get the correct benefit, and cure from your ailment.  For “Jesus Christ” to have any effect in your life, then you must “Apply Him fully.”

Psalm 66:18 “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear [me]:” If we have sin and iniquity in our hearts, then the simple solution is to just remove that blockage to the “Grace and Communion with God,” by this verse, Matthew 4:17 “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”  It is the ancient and simple steps; “Repent, Confess, Forsake.”   Now the obstruction is gone, now we can get the growth going; “Ask, Believe, Claim,” the simple A B C of the Gospel. Mark 11:24-26 “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].  And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.  But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

It is simple “Ask,” Believe,” “Claim.” You will receive, and that is a promise, well unless this verse applies to you; James 4:3 “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume [it] upon your lusts.”   Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”  “Faith” is what now takes over in your Prayer, and then holds on, assured by the knowledge that you are “right with God,” and that your request is in accordance to his word and will.

Quote; “Above the distractions of the earth He sits enthroned; all things are open to His divine survey; and from His great and calm eternity He orders that which His providence sees best.  God does not propose to be called to account for His ways and works. It is for His glory to conceal His purposes now; but by and by they will be revealed in their true importance. But He has not concealed His great love, which lies at the foundation of all His dealings with His children.  {FLB 42}  From “The Lord’s Prayer” we get this clause, Matthew 6:10 “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven.”  It is “God’s Will” that is paramount.

It is all about “God’s Will” and people can get so selfish and think that the Universe revolves around them and their perceived needs, when it is all about God, and what is best for the Universe, and your role and my role is critical to the best and smoothest running of the Universe, and guess what, at the end, you would have always chosen God’s Path, as that was, and is the very best.  Quote; “God never leads His children otherwise than they would choose to be led, if they could see the end from the beginning, and discern the glory of the purpose which they are fulfilling as co-workers with Him. Not Enoch, who was translated to heaven, not Elijah, who ascended in a chariot of fire, was greater or more honoured than John the Baptist, who perished alone in the dungeon. “Unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake” (Philippians 1:29). And of all the gifts that Heaven can bestow upon men, fellowship with Christ in His sufferings is the most weighty trust and the highest honour.  {CC 278}

Opening Quote; “To abide in faith is to put aside feeling and selfish desires, to walk humbly with the Lord, to appropriate His promises, and apply them to all occasions, believing that God will work out His own plans and purposes in your heart and life. {FLB 122}  So let us all “Stand upon the Promises of God.”  Time to stop sitting about, time to put shoes on the feet of faith, to stand up for Jesus, and then to walk in his ways, always.
