Fixation – Coveting
When you look at any Crimes, you find that the most common underlying principle for just on every “Crime,” is predominantly this principle, and it is invariably, and prominently there, and it is “Fixation.” The Burglar was fixated on stealing that particular car. That particular Bank for that perceived abundance of Cash. Murderers that are fixated on the death of that particular person so that they may obtain their position and status, to get up the ladder further, perceived advancement. Getting rid of the person above them by any means, so that they can get the Promotion, and on it goes.
“Fixation,” or the “I want it and I am going to get it, and that’s right now,” and I will never ever take “No” for an answer, I just must possess it right now, and that is immediately. The Bible has a term for this, and it is usually framed into the diverse term of “Coveting.” Simply put, I want what you have, I really need it, I actually really deserve it, and I am going to have it, by whatever means possible, and that is immediately and right now. If it was really so right for you to have, then God would have already abundantly bestowed it upon you, so it was actually never yours in the first place, so it was then gifted to somebody else to have. Coveting – Fixation only leads to your destruction in the end.
In “God’s 10 Rules for Abundant Life,” we get this admonition, Deuteronomy 5:21 “Neither shalt thou desire [Covet – Fixate on} thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any [thing] that [is] thy neighbour’s.” Note that the principle here is simply “Fixation – Coveting” that which belongs to another person. Even if you actually obtained possession of that particular object that you are so fixated upon, could you really give it the very best of care and attention so that it would return to GOD and to you the very best of bounties? Oh Really! Well that is most interesting.
We have something in Scripture that we are encouraged to have “Fixation – Coveting” over, and one of these is found in this verse, 1 Corinthians 12:31 “But covet [fixate upon] earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way,” and that is expounded on by the next whole chapter which is 1 Corinthians 13. Here the subject matter is “Spiritual Gifts” that are purposefully designed to Shepherd the Believers, and to empower them so that they can go out to share the good news of “Eternal Life in Christ Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 14:39 “Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.” Tongues means “Languages,” French, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian etc. so that we are able to spread the Gospel in our “Mother Tongue” as well as in whatever new language you may have learned, so that every Nation, Kindred, Tongue and People, can get to know the full and free salvation that is found only in Christ Jesus our LORD.
The other interesting word in this text is “Prophesy” and the most common term we use today is the word “Preach.” 2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering [Patience] and doctrine.” Paul is admonishing Timothy to be “Always on Duty” and never to have “Time Out” as he, and us believers, are to be always on duty, always “at work” spreading the Gospel by; word, deeds, actions and especially our life-style. We are to be “Vibrant Living Christians” who “Walk the Walk and Talk the Talk” and that is 24/7, every day and in every way, and always “Christians.”
Quote; “Those who do not overcome in little things will have no moral power to withstand greater temptations. All who seek to make honesty the ruling principle in the daily business of life will need to be on their guard that they “covet no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel.” While they are content with convenient food and clothing, it will be found an easy matter to keep the heart and hands from the defilement of covetousness and dishonesty.” {CH 410}
When we look at life in general “Coveting – Fixation” is all well and good to our perception, when we are demanding to receive compensation, but we get very indignant and make lots of “Victim Noise” of how unfair this all is, how hugely we have become oppressed, wronged, if we ever have to ‘Pay Out.” Those who want huge amounts of Compensation, feel that this wrong against them can be made tolerable with huge compensation. In many cases the “Victim” is now the one who is “Coveting – Fixation” on receiving vast advantages, as long as they are receiving benefits, and as long as they do not have to Pay Out, it is reverse Selfishness, all for me, and then you all owe me more, because I am a Victim.
Romans 13:8 “Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.” Philippians 4:11-13 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, [therewith] to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Dear Reader; Let us all be content with what we have, Pray for our daily bread, anything above your daily need is an excess. If you have a need, then take it to GOD in prayer and leave it with him. James 4:3 “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume [it] upon your lusts.” So live right, and forget all about “Coveting – Fixation,” unless it is the desire to be more “Christ Like.”
