Camped on the Highway
When we evaluate our current situation, when we review our current life and progress, the question we should often ask is this; “Are you walking in the Promises of God, or are you just sitting on the premises?” It is so easy to become ‘Camping on the Highway’ to Heaven, enjoying the views, admiring the scenery, taking life easy, having some Rest and Recreation, that wee pause, a picnic, that short stop over, taking in the views, that wee pause that can so easily turn into the reality for us, that terrible situation, that we have just become ‘Camped on the Highway to Heaven.’ Those who are ‘Active Christians’ are ‘Growing and Sowing,’ where the ‘Lost’ are often just eating and sleeping on the job, and are so comfortable to be camping on the highway. Proverbs 6:9 “How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.” Matthew 25:5-6 “While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.”
When we evaluate our current situation, review our life’s progress, the question we should all ask is this; “Are you walking in the Promises of God, or are you just sitting and sleeping on the premises?” It is so easy to be ‘Camping on the Highway’ to Heaven, so Earthly Minded that we are of no Heavenly Use, ‘Camping on the Highway,’ and then left behind, locked out, beating on the door for entrance, abandoned far behind, just left out in the cold, because of our camping and sitting on the premises, waiting, and then discovering that the last flight has just left, the last ship has just sailed, the last train to Glory has just left the station, and we are still ‘Camped on the highway,’ unfitted for the purity of Heaven. A General once was reported to have encouraged his troops just before a battle with this; “Have Faith, Have Faith, firstly with the man next to you, and then with God,” we may let God down, get settled into this life, camping, resting instead of marching and winning, gaining souls and talents and enjoying the abounding gifts in this life, and entrance into a life beyond compare, Halleluiah I’m a millionaire, when compared to anything available in this world, no more camping for me, Hebrews 12:1-2 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” No time for ‘Sitting on the Premises,’ I have a race to run, a victory to win, and a crown of Glory awaiting for me just over there in Glory, awaiting for me, no time to be ‘Camped on the Highway,’ I am forever living on God’s promises, I am no longer sleeping on the premises, always walking in the spirit and cleansed by his shed blood, so I take Paul’s advice, Hebrews 12:1-2 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” You will never find me “Camped on the Highway to Heaven,” then how about you??
Hebrews 11:24-26 “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.” For Moses, when living in Pharoh’s Mansion, glamping is just so easy, life is a dream come true, everything you need, desire or want is quickly brought to you by your servants and slaves, was Moses happy and contented, not in the least, this type of pleasure consumes and destroys, he espied a better land, a far better country, a better kingdom, and he wanted it, and all he had to conquer and destroy, was self, so he walked out of the Palace, he became a shepherd in a harsh deserted desert, to then return, the most humble man ever, to lead a bunch of rioting mean and grumbling people, kicking and screaming every inch of the way, right up to the Jordan river and the very edge of the ‘Promised Land,’ the camping was short, the marching was long, hot and dry, but Israel did actually march right on in, are you making progress forwards, marching, overcoming, or has camping become your new home. Proverbs 6:6-11 “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, [and] gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.” Quote; “It is an easy matter to idle away, talk and play away, the Holy Spirit’s influence. To walk in the light is to keep moving onward in the direction of light. If the one blessed becomes negligent and inattentive and does not watch unto prayer, if he does not lift the cross and bear the yoke of Christ, if his love of amusements and strivings for the mastery absorb his power or ability, then God is not made the first and best and last in everything, and Satan comes in to act his part in playing the game for life for this soul. He can play much more earnestly than they can play, and make deep-laid plots for the ruin of that soul. {1SM 131} Beware of becoming “Camped on the Highway.”
