This Article attempts to shine some glimmer of understanding upon what is actually behind, and connected with, or related to, sin and sin removal, but then the ‘Sanctuary Service’ is an amazing physical system to teach us all about a spiritual system. But the Sanctuary service is there just because of a problem, a sickness, a plague, called ‘Sin.’ But what is sin, 1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” Quote; “Adam and Eve persuaded themselves that in so small a matter as eating of the forbidden fruit there could not result such terrible consequences as God had declared. But this small matter was the transgression of God’s immutable and holy law, and it separated man from God and opened the floodgates of death and untold woe upon our world. Age after age there has gone up from our earth a continual cry of mourning, and the whole creation groaneth and travaileth together in pain as a consequence of man’s disobedience. Heaven itself has felt the effects of his rebellion against God. Calvary stands as a memorial of the amazing sacrifice required to atone for the transgression of the divine law. Let us not regard sin as a trivial thing.” {SC 33} Quote; “For the sins of those who are redeemed by the blood of Christ will at last be rolled back upon the originator of sin, and he must bear their punishment, while those who do not accept salvation through Jesus will suffer the penalty for their own sins.” {EW 178} Leviticus 23:27-30 “Also on the tenth [day] of this seventh month [there shall be] a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it [is] a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. For whatsoever soul [it be] that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. And whatsoever soul [it be] that doeth any work in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.”
Those who are in sin, or have unforgiveness and unforgiven sin, but when they are forgiven, they slip and turn back once more to living ungrateful, and unthankful, when at the point when time is after the close of probation, then we no longer live under Grace, and have no more Mediator to forgive and to remove sin, their forgiven sin is cancelled, and the sin is then rolled back onto them. There is also the sin of “Commission,” you actually did the deed, and the sin of “Omission,” in that you forgot to do something, and then there is this option as well, ‘sin is some act that would have been committed, had there been opportunity, for if circumstances were different, the action would have definitely been carried out,’ this is why Lust and Coveting, corrupt thinking, all are so very dangerous. Here is something else to consider, ‘Wholesome things taken to excess is Sin.’ “Let us not regard sin as a trivial thing.” Proverbs 23:7a “For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he:” James 4:17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth [it] not, to him it is sin.”
Quote; “How solemn is the thought! Day after day, passing into eternity, bears its burden of records for the books of heaven. Words once spoken, deeds once done, can never be recalled. Angels have registered both the good and the evil. The mightiest conqueror upon the earth cannot call back the record of even a single day. Our acts, our words, even our most secret motives, all have their weight in deciding our destiny for weal or woe. Though they may be forgotten by us, they will bear their testimony to justify or to condemn.” {GC 486} Quote; “As the artist transfers to the canvas the features of the face, so the features of each individual character are transferred to the books in Heaven. God has a perfect photographic record of each man’s character. {5BC 1085} Quote; “On the Day of Atonement the high priest, having taken an offering from the congregation, went into the most holy place with the blood of this offering, and sprinkled it upon the mercy seat, directly over the law, to make satisfaction for its claims. Then, in his character of mediator, he took the sins upon himself and bore them from the sanctuary. Placing his hands upon the head of the scapegoat, he confessed over him all these sins, thus in figure transferring them from himself to the goat. The goat then bore them away, and they were regarded as forever separated from the people. {GC 420} The “God Goat” was perfect, no sin was ever placed upon it at its death, its blood is pure, it is taken into the Most Holy Place, sprinkled upon the Mercy Seat, the Sinless High Priest, (representing Jesus), collects all the forgiven sin, in essence his body takes it upon himself, and he takes the sin outside, thus cleansing the Sanctuary, and confesses it all upon the head of the Scapegoat. Normally when sin is confessed upon a perfect animal, its then sin polluted blood is shed, then the sin is taken inside the Sanctuary, but in this case (the very last Yom Kippur, Great Day of Atonement), the Sanctuary is squeaky clean and sinless, no sin allowed in here anymore, the animal (Scapegoat – Satan) is led away into an inhospitable wilderness, and abandoned, there to perish in degradation and sin, far beyond salvation, Ezekiel 18:4 “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” The Scapegoat will die forsaken, unforgiven, sin saturated, beyond redemption and salvation, perishing without hope, death is immanent, wages of sin.
Now if the Scapegoat were some ‘saviour,’ then it would have had sin applied, life taken, its body burnt upon the altar, blood taken into the Sanctuary to make atonement, but we are in the last Yom Kippur, The Great Day of Atonement. In the normal yearly cycle of Feasts and Festivals, we are into a new year of the normal round of sacrifices, but this is the ‘Last Clean Up,’ here we are after ‘The Last Day,’ there are absolutely not anymore days, there is just no more hope for sinners, no more sacrifices available for sinners, Satan is totally unable to ever play any part in our salvation, for he is sinful and impure, deformed, corrupt, just never good enough to pass the purity and perfection test need as a sacrifice. For it is Jesus alone, who is the way the truth and the life. Revelation 22:11-12 “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward [is] with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Judgement has set, the books were opened, all cases of the redeemed were checked over, the faithful were allotted Heaven, and those in for a free ride were put out of the Kingdom to have their forgiven sins once more rolled back upon them, also to face the charge of “High Treason” against the throne of God, this is the charge of “Killing the Son of God,” both extremely scarry charges.
From this service we find that there are two critical ‘Transferals,’ the first is from the repentant sinner into the Sanctuary; the second is from the Sanctuary going outside onto the scapegoat. But why is this done? Quote; “Since Satan is the originator of sin, the direct instigator of all the sins that caused the death of the Son of God, justice demands that Satan shall suffer the final punishment. Christs work, for the redemption of men and the purification of the universe from sin, will be closed by the removal of sin from the heavenly sanctuary, and in placing these sins back upon Satan, who will bear the final penalty. So with the typical service, the yearly round of ministration closes with the purification of the sanctuary, and the confessing of sins on the head of the scapegoat.” {PP 358} Malachi 4:1 ‘For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root (Satan) nor branch (Sinners).” Quote; “The great controversy is ended. Sin and sinners are no more. The entire universe is clean. One pulse of harmony and gladness beats through the vast creation. From Him who created all, flow life and light and gladness throughout the realms of illimitable space. From the minutest atom to the greatest world, all things, animate and inanimate, in their unshadowed beauty and perfect joy, declare that God is love. {CTr 372} Shortly the Sanctuary will be fully and completely cleansed for the very last time, forgiven and forsaken sin is all removed, the redeemed have no sin in their daily lives, their forgiven past sin is removed and no record of it is to be ever seen again, they are eternally pure with no records or evidence of any failings, just blank pages in the records of failings. Nominal believers, by their unfaithfulness, have their forgiven sin rolled back upon them, their forgiveness is cancelled and their sin is given back, the wicked are still living in their trespasses and sins, so when sin is destroyed, their connection and the sin in their lives ultimately destroys them. Let us therefore live Holy Lives, righteous in all our ways, and ALL past sin forsaken, forgiven, removed. Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” Forever, ‘Blank Pages’ in the records books.
Hebrews 3:13 “But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Quote; “the curse of God rested upon them for what they had not done. They had loved that work which would bring the greatest profit in this life; and opposite their names in the ledger devoted to good works there was a mournful blank. The words spoken to these were most solemn: “You are weighed in the balances, and found wanting. You have neglected spiritual responsibilities because of busy activity in temporal matters, while your very position of trust made it necessary that you should have more than human wisdom and greater than finite judgment. {4T 386} “opposite their names in the ledger devoted to good works there was a mournful blank.” What gets ‘Blanked out,’ it is by your choices, by the lifestyle you live, will it be your ‘Righteous Acts,’ or will it be your ‘Sinful Acts,’ you get to choose which ledger gets blanked out. Quote; “In the typical service only those who had come before God with confession and repentance, and whose sins, through the blood of the sin offering, were transferred to the sanctuary, had a part in the service of the Day of Atonement. So in the great day of final atonement and investigative judgment the only cases considered are those of the professed people of God. The judgment of the wicked is a distinct and separate work, and takes place at a later period. “Judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel?” 1 Peter 4:17. The books of record in heaven, in which the names and the deeds of men are registered, are to determine the decisions of the judgment. Says the prophet Daniel: “The judgment was set, and the books were opened.” The revelator, describing the same scene, adds: “Another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” Revelation 20:12. {GC 480} John 1:36 “And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!” If Jesus is your personal Saviour, then your sins and failings are all confessed and forsaken, going forth before you to Judgement, to be rolled back upon Satan, who will perish with no forgiveness available, and your record of failings and sins in the books of Heaven are clean and blank pages, do you want Jesus to bear away your sins and failings or do you want to die in your trespasses and sins, and with your goodness appearing in the books in heaven as ‘Blank Pages,’ the choice is yours, come repentantly to ‘The Lamb of God,’ cling to him, and forsake all evil.
Revelation 7:14-15 “And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.” Will Jesus ‘Redeem’ you, or will your sin ‘Condemn’ you, are you saved with Jesus or condemned to die along with Satan, “The Scapegoat?” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which [temple] ye are.”
