I’m Still Standing
There is this “Tall Poppy Syndrome,” where if you are standing tall, those lower down often try to knock you back down, undermine you, pull you over, get you to fall right back down to their level, belittle you. Quote; “The greatest want of the world is the want of men, — men who will not be bought or sold; men who in their inmost souls are true and honest; men who do not fear to call sin by its right name; men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole; men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall. {Ed 57} So, “I’m still Standing,” and as the philosophers say, “If you do not stand for something, then you will probably fall for everything.” What are you falling for, what is pulling you down, what has got under your skin, what really scares you? It was once said, “Do something that scares you every day,” stop that procrastination, but it scares me, what will others think, instead, ask, “What would God think if I did or did not do this thing, what actually really would God have me to do?” Remember, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” So, “I’m still Standing,” sticks and stones might break my bones but names will never hurt me, cause “I’m still Standing.”
Luther; “Unless I am convinced by Scripture and plain reason – I do not accept the authority of the popes and councils, for they have contradicted each other – my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and I will not recant anything for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. God help me. Amen.” “I’m Still Standing, so here I Stand.” Psalm 91:7-9 “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; [but] it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, [which is] my refuge, [even] the most-High, thy habitation;” Stand for God, and he will stand right there with you, beside you, within you, like a support spine, standing tall and straight and strong, Colossians 1:27 “To whom God would make known what [is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” So, “I’m still Standing,” and as a Christian, I’m following Jesus moment by moment, “Are you Standing on the Promises or Sitting on the Premises?” If you want God to close and open doors, then let go of the door knob, pull that wedge out from behind the door, clear away that pile of stuff, and welcome Jesus into your life. Sometimes people around you won’t understand your journey. They do not need to, it’s just not for them, it is not their journey.
Quote; “Don’t you know I’m still standing better than I ever did? Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid, And I’m still standing after all this time, Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind,” {Elton John} A person’s most beautiful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love and an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others. “The fact that you are still here is proof that whatever tried to beat you down has lost, cause I’m still standing. Luke 21:36 “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” Ephesians 6:13 “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
Here is the lyrics to a Hymn from a while back, Quote; “Standing on the promises of Christ my King, Through eternal ages, let his praises ring
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God
Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God, my Saviour, Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.” When push comes to shove, when all is said and done, are you still loudly and committedly declaring, “I’m Still Standing,” come what may, though the heavens may fall, my calling and commitment is fixed, 2 Peter 1:10 “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:” for “I’m Still Standing.” Genesis 17:1b “the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Abraham was encouraged by God to walk uprightly, to stand on God’s promises, Micah 6:8 “He hath showed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Revelation 6:17 “For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” Will you take your stand for righteousness, truth and the right, will you be able to say clearly, “I’m Still Standing,” or will procrastination have you lying face down, out cold with your face buried in the muck, just “I’m Still Standing,” but are you? If not, then why not? 1 Corinthians 10:12 “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.” Hymn; “Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father, There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not, As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.” For “I’m Still Standing,” but are you still standing? If not, then why not? Here I stand, I can do nothing more, God, please hold onto me tightly, and be there beside me for all the length of my days, lead me in the paths of righteousness, cause “I’m Still Standing,” and I will keep on standing for God, though the heavens fall.
