Married at First Sight
There exists, what they call, a ‘Reality Show,’ where a couple are dressed for their wedding, blindfolded, and then lead to the Altar, blindfolds are removed, and the Priest, Minister, Celebrant, or duly authorized person, performs the wedding service, and they say, ‘I Do,’ and are married to a complete stranger, picked by somebody else, with minimal input from the Bride or the Groom. There are even some tribes and cultures, where parents and community even select a suitable bride for the menfolk, and they are dutifully married to each other. I guess ‘Adam’ found himself in this very situation, he had a we doze after lunch, and had a sleep, and then Jesus awakes him to bring to him this breath-taking beauty, woah-man, and so her gender became known as ‘Woman,’ true or not, it is still humous; but the reality was Eve was brought to Adam, a contractual and binding agreement, that ‘One Flesh.’ Genesis 2:21-24 “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, this [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” The original Hebrew language gives us a ‘Romance’ depth to the phrase, “and brought her unto the man,” for as a Father walks his precious daughter down the aisle and then hands her over to a young chap, who therefore promises to treasure and to protect, adore and to provide for her, the romance language gives us that Jesus made Eve, most likely from the exact patch of dirt and the same place that Adam was recently made from, but including in this new creation that part of Adam, that ‘One Flesh,’ concept, something we now have a chance to grasp. 2 Corinthians 5:19 “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” John 10:30 “I and [my] Father are one,” and this is definitely ‘Marriage Language.” Perfect harmony between Father and Son, beating hearts in unison, working together as one, oneness, ‘one flesh.’ Colossians 1:27 “To whom God would make known what [is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” Paul used the term “Christ in you,” some 51 times, that crucial point that we can be ‘in Christ,’ but more critically that we always have “Christ in you,” that hope of Glory. Revelation 21:2 “And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” Again, we have romance and marriage language, as ‘The New Jerusalem,’ contains only those who are ‘Married to Jesus Christ,’ those who are fully one with him, Christ residing and ever present with each one of its citizens, so do you hope to be “Married at first sight,” or are you choosing right now, to have a vibrant ongoing relationship with him right now, ‘Courtship,’ singular devotion, that you have eyes for no other, Jesus is calling and seeking for you, even calling you tenderly by name, what then is your response??
What if you were suddenly whisked off to Heaven, God the Father officiated, Jesus stood there and said enthusiastically, ‘I Do,’ and you were instantly married, do you actually know anything about Jesus, yes, we all know his name, even cursers and swears know that, but do you actually and truly really know Jesus, are you really sure about that?? Are you ready to live with him every moment of every day, and this is lasting for forever? Isaac and Rebecca were married at first sight; well she did get her Fathers and big Brothers permission to go far away and to marry some complete stranger, some far distant relative, she herself agreed, was willing, she did have a fair few weeks with Abraham’s most trusted servant, on the long journey back to her new home, so they could chat while travelling, and when sitting around the evening meal, so she knew lots about Isaac, but being actually married to Isaac would mean that she really and truly knew him, right down to which side of the bed he preferred to sleep on, did he snore or sleep-walk, which sock went on firstly, the right or the left, what is their preferred breakfast choice, how well do you actually really know your spouse, do you know that much about God and Jesus??
Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” Matthew 5:8 “Blessed [are] the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” There is so many places in Scripture, where we find that tender and compassionate “Marriage Language,” that ‘Oneness,’ singular devotion, commitment, something some marriages here could do with a good big sized helping of, but on a ‘Spiritual, concept, how good are you at this ‘Oneness,’ and having ‘Christ in you,’ being ‘One with God,’ that ‘Marriage’ concept that should be a real reality, right now, and ever blossoming and growing and developing throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity. Then are you ‘Married to God,’ or are you just fooling yourself, fooling around, looking for a better offer, something perceived to be more fulfilling? Jesus promises us Tender and Compassionate care, and these concepts are from the catalogue of ‘Marriage language,’ 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” Fornication and Adultery are Marriage Language, offering or giving that which belongs to God, or even to your spouse, is actually nothing less than Adultery – ‘That which should not ought to be.’ The Humorist once asked; “If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” We could also ask this; “If you were arrested for being in a committed marriage relationship with your spouse, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” How convincing is your marriage to your spouse, how convincing is your ‘oneness,’ your marriage, your relationship with God??
