Drink from Your Own Well
There are lots of intriguing tasty morsels when one digs deeper into God’s Word, and here we explore some from this treasure trove, “Drink from your own well.” Proverbs 5:15 “Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.” Proverbs 5:18-23 “Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. [Let her be as] the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.” Proverbs 16:25 “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.” Matthew 5:28 “But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
Quote; “Herein is set forth a principle that is seen in all God’s dealings with men. The Lord placed our first parents in the Garden of Eden. He surrounded them with everything that could minister to their happiness, and He bade them acknowledge Him as the possessor of all things. With Him He has given us all things richly to enjoy. {FLB 160} Your Spouse is your ‘Garden of Eden,’ and holds all those abundant and delicious and healthful fruits, all that your heart could ever desire, and then even so much more, therefore feast solely upon them. But there is also a tree of ‘Good and Evil,’ which points towards all that is forbidden, as that path leads to grief and sorrow and even death. All other potential partners are this ‘Tree of Good and Evil,’ they may look very enticing, even tempting and good, but ask Eve firstly, Genesis 3:6-7 “And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make [one] wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they [were] naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” Genesis 4:7a “If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door.”
Genesis 2:6-9 “But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.” Question; Adam and Eve were to tend and to care for the Garden of Eden, and then the whole Earth, but secondly, to nurture and tend their own person, and then the person of their spouse, to tend and to care and to nurture, to grow and to develop, so how well do you get along with tender care, nurturing, tending and perfecting yourself firstly and then your spouse?? But if you have no spouse, then Jesus has stepped forwards and declared that he will be an Husband unto you. Isaiah 54:5 “For thy Maker [is] thine husband; the LORD of hosts [is] his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.” Forget the gender issue, this is all about a tender and compassionate care, like unto a Shepherd, like a Gardener, like a devoted spouse, tending and caring and nourishing.
How well are we at ‘Weeding?’ what actually is a weed? Well in one district and community, each year there is a great plague of a certain weed, that springs up all along the sides of the main road, what was this pesky pest you may ask, Wheat. You see at harvest time, truck after truck all day and even into the night for many days, the trucks roared through, and the odd loose grain was blown off and when it reached the edge of the road it grew. A weed therefore is just some plant that is simply in the wrong place, Fornication means – ‘That which should not ought to be.’ Like wheat along the roadside, it should not ought to be there. In our interaction with others, what are you spreading that should be for your spouse and for them alone, this friendship, affection, chatter, whatever it is that belongs to your spouse, belongs to your spouse, if offered to others this is ‘That which should not ought to be.’ What do we give freely and abundantly to the World, to Sin, to whatever, that really actually and truly belongs to God, this is always Fornication which means – ‘That which should not ought to be.’ Jesus promises us Tender and Compassionate care, and these concepts are from the catalogue of ‘Marriage language,’ 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” Fornication and Adultery are Marriage Language, that offering or giving that which belongs to God or to your spouse to any other, is actually Adultery – ‘That which should not ought to be.’ Why do we not drink from our own well and cistern, plow with our own heifer (Judges 14:18), Luke 20:25 “And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.” Luke 20:25 [Adapted] “And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar [Your Spouse] the things which be Caesar’s [Your Spouses rights and privileges], and unto God the things which be God’s.” Why do we not drink from our own well and cistern, plow with our own heifer, to treasure that which we have, Matthew 25:40 “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.” Let us treasure God firstly, Spouse secondarily, and then as God’s Precious Child, do your utmost and very best to Live for God in every way, every day, Acts 17:28a “For in him we live, and move, and have our being;” Whether married or single, we need to remember this, 1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” Drink from your own well, making God First, Last and Best in Everything…
