Gaither Music has given us a very good rendition of this wonderful old Gospel Song, which in turn has given us our title, and these lyrics are well worth a thoughtful read.  Lyrics;

“Give the world a smile each day (a smile every day)
Helping some-one on life’s way (on life’s dreary way)
From the paths of sin, bring the wonderer’s in
To the master’s fold to stay (forever to stay)
Help to cheer the lone and sad (lonely and sad)
Help to make some pilgrim glad (some pilgrim glad)
Let your life so be that all the world may see
The joy of serving Jesus with a smile (a bright sunny smile)

Are you giving to the world a smile (sunny smile)
Helping lessen someone’s dreary mile (dreary mile)
Do you greet the world with song, as through life you pass along
Cheering those that you may meet along life’s way

Give the world a smile each day (a smile every day)
Helping some-one on life’s way (on life’s dreary way)
From the paths of sin, bring the wonderer’s in
To the master’s fold to stay (forever to stay)
Help to cheer the lone and sad (lonely and sad)
Help to make some pilgrim glad (some pilgrim glad)
Let your life so be that all the world may see
The joy of serving Jesus with a smile (a bright sunny smile)”

Dolly Parton once said; “If you see somebody without a smile, then just give them yours.”  Are you joyed and cheered along life’s way, by the daily walking and fellowship with Jesus, when the ‘Joy of the Gospel,’ and the ‘Love of God,’ just oozes out of your face and pores, and then just gushes out of your very being, with contentment and smiling happiness; if not, then why not?  Let us contemplate then this story from, “The Golden Gate Bridge.” The ‘Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide (1.6 km) strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.  But people regularly walk across it, they run and they jog across it, even cycle across it, but then it is really a very busy wide Roadway/Highway, with vehicles pouring across it in a continuous stream, some 40 million per year, flooding across each and every day, and to continue pouring across at about every hour of the day, and the night, but then some people just go out to the center of the bridge, not to photograph, but to jump.

Of the some 2000 persons who have ever jumped from off that bridge, to commit suicide, but then there are some 39 who actually lived to tell the tale.  One jumper, quietly walked out to the middle of the bridge, and then jumped to his death, when his body was recovered, the authorities went through his pockets, identified him, and with his house keys in hand, the authorities then went around to his residence, and when searching through his papers, they uncovered and found this sad note.   “I am sad and I am going to commit suicide today, but if only just one person will ever smile at me, anywhere along on my way to the bridge, then I will immediately turn around and come back home, for then life is still worth living.”  Of all of the so many people going about their daily business, walking, exercising, driving, tourist things, that passed by this poor sad chap, just nobody ever smiled, nobody even noticed him, so he jumped, how so very sad, when Dolly Parton once said; “If you see somebody without a smile, then just give them yours.”

So then does the “Love of God as found in Christ Jesus our Lord,” shine forth from within you, spilling out in floods of joy and peace, with loads of contentment and happiness, smiling out to all those whom you may meet along life’s way?  Romans 5:1-5 JB Phillips “Since then it is by faith that we are justified, let us grasp the fact that we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have confidently entered into this new relationship of grace, and here we take our stand, in happy certainty of the glorious things he has for us in the future.  This doesn’t mean, of course, that we have only a hope of future joys—we can be full of joy right here and now, even in our current trials and troubles. Taken in the right spirit, these very things will give us patient endurance; this in turn will develop a mature character, and a character of this sort produces a steady hope, and a character that will never disappoint us. Already we have some experience of the love of God, abundantly flooding through our hearts by the Holy Spirit given to us, but then let us have so much more.”

Romans 8:37-39 JB Phillips “No, in all these things we win an overwhelming victory through him who has proved his love for us.  I have become absolutely convinced that neither death nor life, neither messenger of Heaven, nor monarch of earth, neither what happens today, nor what may happen tomorrow, neither a power from on high, nor a power from below, nor anything else in God’s whole world, has any power to separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord!”  1 John 3:16-17 “Hereby perceive we the love [of God], because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren.  But whoso hath this world’s goods, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels [of compassion] from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?”  Jude 1:21 “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”

So then in conclusion, if you have a smile, stored up somewhere down there, deep down inside, do not conceal it, reveal it, then please advise your face, we need to blossom and to glow, just to show it, to glow it, in the joy of the Lord, rejoice again, I say rejoice, in the Love of God, and to always smile, live life fully in Christ Jesus our Lord, and then ‘Give the world a smile each day,’ on every single day, and all along life’s way.

“Give the world a smile each day
Helping some-one on life’s way
From the paths of sin, bring the wonderer’s in
To the master’s fold to stay,

Help to cheer the lone and sad

Help to make some pilgrim glad
Let your life so be that all the world may see
The joy of serving Jesus with a smile (a bright sunny smile)”
Are you smiling with the Peace that passeth all understanding, the joy of the Lord, I know in whom I am, and whose I am, it is Christ in me the Hope of Glory.  Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”  So with Christ in you, with the Joy of The Lord abounding from within, then please just give the World a smile, each and every day.
