The Exodus
Most of us are well aware that the original Exodus actually really happened way back in ancient History, even if we have only watched it as a “Movie” from one of the various editions that have been made into film over the years. In Scripture there is a logical progression of stages that fit pretty much every single situation, First there is the original event being “Prophesied/or Predicted” and then there is secondly “The actual Event happens for Real” but thirdly there is the repeat of the exact same event that follows the exact same original pattern, but it is in a future era and this is it’s “The Spiritual Application.”
Let us examine this “Three Step Progression” sequence with this specific event and to see where it leads us, shall we. Let us start with Genesis 15:13-15 “And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land [that is] not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; and also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.” Here we have the Prophetic prediction of a future situation that God has foreseen, and has already planned ahead a method to correct it by getting his people out of the predicament, and Exodus or Exiting is prepared, ahead of time, just for them.
Here is a verse of both prediction as well as of action or proof evidence to the Exodus as found in Deuteronomy 4:34-35 “Or hath God assayed to go [and] take him a nation from the midst of [another] nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he [is] God; [there is] none else beside him.” Or this one found in Exodus 13:9 “And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the LORD’s law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.”
There is certainly plenty of Archaeological evidences for this event having taken place as there is lots of Historical written records and there are archaeology sites that show things, so we can clearly accept that this event actually did take place. So let us look at one of the verses and we will see that although it is now past, it has a secondary future element to it as well. Deuteronomy 4:34-35 “Or hath God assayed to go [and] take him a nation from the midst of [another] nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he [is] God; [there is] none else beside him.”
Now Egypt and Sin are interchangeable in Hebrew understanding, and we live in what is often referred to as “This World of Sin,” so to add our interchangeable factor, we can also write this as “This World of Egypt.” Now our promise from God is that he will bring out with a strong and mighty arm his people from inside another people group and re-locate them to a new home which we called Israel, and he called “The Promised Land.” Now Heaven above is also regularly referred to as “The Promised Land,” so now we have a “Spiritual” connection or reference to a physical place or event. Remember this verse in Galatians 3:7 “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham” or Galatians 3:29 “And if ye [be] Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” If you are a “Christian” or follower of Jesus Christ, then God sees you as “Jewish,” and a “child of Abraham,” destined to live in a Jewish city called “The New Jerusalem.”
The New Testament, and also portions of the Old Testament devote sections to encourage us to look “outside the box,” as it were and to see a glorious sin free future. Revelation chapters 21 & 22, give a pretty advanced and in depth view of this place as a reality and not as some mythical airy fairy place, it is that “Heavenly City whose builder and maker is God” {Hebrews 11:10}, it is Jerusalem (the City of Shalom/Peace) and John the Revelator uses the term “New Jerusalem” to differentiate exactly which version of the city he is referring to. It has buildings and rivers and trees, and is currently advertising for “Citizens” and there is an open invitation for you to go and live there as a citizen and to live there forever; so will you accept God’s invitation and prepare to live there forever with Jesus Christ, God’s only son?
So I guess we all have a choice, and to answer this question; do we want to “Step up,” “Stand Up,” and be “Translated Up,” to glories beyond our current comprehension. This verse comes to mind as found in 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed [them] unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
There is the other side of the coin in which we say, “No Thanks” and God respects our wishes, and then reluctantly he will cease your existence, called “the wages of sin” and you will become ashes under the feet of those who accept this amazing offer, so let us all “Choose Life” and have real Life in Jesus Christ, and Exodus to the “New Jerusalem.”
