A Mouse in the House
In this Article we will explore the concept of; Oh why do we so often let loose into our House (Mind), that which may not actually be what we really want, and it usually has us “chasing our tails” focusing all our energies and attention on a very small situation, that really has no productive value, just like when a cat brings home a “Present” and lets the mouse race free around your house.
Until the mouse is caught and sorted, all ones waking and often sleeping moments relate to “there is a mouse in the house.” I sat in on a “Men’s Group” a while back and some were battling with undesirable lustful thoughts about certain other ladies they knew, which were not their spouse, they had let in, and had then set free into their thoughts, a mouse of very undesirable passion, and some could catch and stop it with some small battle, yet a couple of chaps found that it was very much consuming most of their time and energies trying to re-capture this wee mouse (thoughts) and to rid it from themselves and their mind.
When “there is a mouse in the house” running freely, it is not so very easy to re-capture it, just remember the last time you had a mouse freely romping around in the house and Ladies requesting a speedy termination of the pest. The Bible is very plain in setting out that the “desire of a husband” is always towards his wife, and husbands should never ever bring home a mouse, and to never let it roam freely in their thoughts.
Quote; “The apostle sought to teach the believers how important it is to keep the mind from wandering to forbidden themes or from spending its energies on trifling subjects. Those who would not fall a prey to Satan’s devices, must guard well the avenues of the soul; they must avoid reading, seeing, or hearing that which will suggest impure thoughts. The mind must not be left to dwell at random upon every subject that the enemy of souls may suggest. The heart must be faithfully sentineled, or evils without will awaken evils within, and the soul will wander in darkness. “Gird up the loins of your mind,” Peter wrote, “be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; . . . not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: but as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” {AA 518}

Everything that can be done should be done to place ourselves and our children where we shall not see the iniquity that is practiced in the world. We should carefully guard the sight of our eyes and the hearing of our ears so that these awful things shall not enter our minds.” {AH 403}

Many of the popular publications of the day are filled with sensational stories that are educating the youth in wickedness and leading them in the path to perdition. Mere children in years are old in a knowledge of crime. They are incited to evil by the tales they read. . . . The seeds of lawlessness are sown broadcast. None need marvel that a harvest of crime is the result.
The readers of fiction are indulging an evil that destroys spirituality, eclipsing the beauty of the sacred page. It creates an unhealthy excitement, fevers the imagination, unfits the mind for usefulness, weans the soul from prayer, and disqualifies it for any spiritual exercise.
Suffer not yourselves to open the lids of a book that is questionable. There is a hellish fascination in the literature of Satan. It is the powerful battery by which he tears down a simple religious faith. Never feel that you are strong enough to read infidel books; for they contain a poison like that of asps. Young men and young women, read the literature that will give you true knowledge, and that will be a help to the entire family. Say firmly: “I will not spend precious moments in reading that which will be of no profit to me, and which only unfits me to be of service to others. . . . I will close my eyes to frivolous and sinful things.” The oftener and more diligently you study the Bible, the more beautiful will it appear, and the less relish you will have for light reading. Bind this precious volume to your hearts. It will be to you a friend and guide.” {FLB 241}
